What is Chronic Fatigue ?

Exhaustion, Pain, Flu-Like Symptoms

By , Guide                               Updated June 11, 2010 Health’s Disease and Condition content is reviewed by the Medical Review Board

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS or ME/CFS) is much more than just being tired a lot. People with ME/CFS are so run down that it interferes with their lives and can make it hard to function at all. Some people with ME/CFS say they have trouble staying on top of their responsibilities at home and on the job, while others are severely disabled and even bedridden. Furthermore, they’re not just dealing with extreme fatigue but with a wide range of other symptoms, including flu-like symptoms and chronic pain.

The three glands of the HPA axis work together to control the body’s stress response.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms

Symptoms of ME/CFS and their intensity vary from person to person.

Common symptoms include:

  • Sudden severe fatigue, especially following a flu-like illness
  • Sleep that isn’t refreshing
  • Muscle and joint aches without swelling
  • Intense or changing patterns of headaches
  • Sore throat
  • Swollen lymph glands in the neck or armpits
  • Memory problems/inability to concentrate
  • Symptoms have a distict onset

Other symptoms can include:

  • Intolerance to alcohol
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Dry eyes and mouth
  • Impaired circulation in the hands and feet
  • Visual disturbances
  • Painful menstrual periods

For fatigue to be considered severe, it must meet the four following criteria:

  1. It’s not relieved by sleep or rest
  2. It’s not the result of strenuous physical labor
  3. It significantly lowers your ability to function normally in most situations
  4. It gets a lot worse after mental or physical exertion, or after you’ve been sick

Diagnosing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

After your doctor has eliminated the possibility that your fatigue and pain are caused by another ailment, it’s time to see whether your symptoms fit the criteria for ME/CFS.

According to the most recent guidelines set by the CDC, for a diagnosis of ME/CFS, the patient must have had fatigue for more than six months that impairs normal activities and cannot be attributed to any identifiable medical or psychological problems.

Researchers haven’t yet discovered the underlying cause of ME/CFS, and so far the condition is incurable.*  Only a small percentage of the people who see a doctor for fatigue can be diagnosed with ME/CFS. When a doctor can’t find a cause for fatigue but the patient’s symptoms don’t meet the criteria for ME/CFS, a likely diagnosis is idiopathic (of unknown cause) chronic fatigue.

* VIP NOTE – The statement “and so far the condition is incurable” is not 100%  accurate.  CFS is NOT incurable.  Read testimony below.

To Whom It May Concern:                                                     * January 18, 2011

In 1994 I became seriously ill with a disease that some of the best medical doctors in the country could not cure or even treat. After enduring unrelenting fear, repeated examinations, lab tests, an MRI, and several intrusive medical procedures –all of which amounted to more than $30,000—I turned to alternative healing in the form of hypnoanalysis with Dr. Ysatis De Saint Simone.

Before I had therapy with Ysatis, a typical day for me was spent in bed or lying on a couch in pain with multiple debilitating and frightening physical symptoms. My sanity was constantly challenged. There were times when I had ten or twelve symptoms throughout various periods of the day.

Prior to beginning the therapy, I was on the verge of suicide and lived in desperation. I have completely healed from 95% of the physical suffering. I am currently still in therapy with Ysatis and the remaining symptoms are dissipating.

The clinical diagnosis of part of my problems was Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, Acid Reflux Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Tachycardia, Dyspepsia, Shingles, Restless Leg Syndrome.

The only thing which set me free from my physical and mental pain was having hypnoanalysis therapy with Ysatis. This form of healing is nothing short of a miracle and if human beings understood the tremendous benefits of this therapy they would be lining up to receive it.

What is stress?

Stress is simply a fact of nature — forces from the outside world affecting all individuals. Stress is meant to and has driven the evolutionary change, development and natural selection of species over history. Thus, the species that could not adapt to the needed stress disappeared and those who adapted best to the evolutionary stressors survived and evolved into the plant, animal kingdoms and so on that we now observe. Each individual responds to stress in different ways.  The way each one responds to stress is crucial, for it is that which determines how stress affects the individual and his health as well as their environment.

Without exception, all living creatures are in a constant interchange with their surroundings (the ecosystem), both physically and behaviorally. This interplay of forces, or energy, is of course present in the relationships between all matter in the universe, whether it is living (animate) or not living (inanimate). However, an this is most important, there are critical differences in how different living creatures relate to their environment. These differences have far-reaching consequences for survival.

Because of the overabundance of stress in our modern lives, we usually think of stress as a negative experience, but from a biological point of view, stress can be a neutral, negative, or positive experience.

Stress can be related to both external and  internal factors. External factors include the physical environment, including your job, your relationships with others, your home, unexpected changes and situations, challenges, difficulties, and expectations you’re confronted with on a daily basis.

Internal factors determine your body’s ability to respond to, and deal with, the external stress-inducing factors. Internal factors influence indeed your ability to handle stress, your nutritional status, overall health and physical well-being in different levels, affecting your sleep, emotional well-being, and the amount of rest you get when you sleep.

Stress is meant to and has driven the evolutionary change, development and natural selection of species over history. Thus, the species that could not adapt to the needed stress disappeared and those who adapted best to the evolutionary stressors survived and evolved into the plant, animal kingdoms and so on that we now observe.

I Was Too Busy for Heart Disease Until It Almost Killed Me

In the fall of 2006, Vicki Riedel felt more tired than usual. Riedel, the executive director of development at the Emory University Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, had always been pretty athletic (she’d played on a tennis team the previous fall), but she started to feel a mild tightness in her chest when she climbed stairs. It crossed her mind that her symptoms could be heart related, but she was busy with work and family at the time and dismissed the thought.

By the end of the year Riedel had undergone an angioplasty to remove a major blockage in one of her coronary arteries; she had been close to a heart attack.

Stress Hurt My Health
To understand how the blockage developed, my physician and I looked at my family history, my diet and lifestyle, and my cholesterol levels. None of it added up to the extent of blockage that I had.

And then we looked at my stress levels. How Stress Can Break Your Heart — Literally

The realization that stress was the probable cause was so hard for me to deal with. I’ve got a very demanding, fulfilling and challenging job, yet I have to keep my life in balance. It’s a continual process.

This was a tremendous wake-up call for me. I think the most important thing is to really listen to your body; it will tell you so much. We need to take care of ourselves and work for balance so that we don’t put too much stress on ourselves.

To survive the stress of our times and lives, it is a most to know how to transform stress into a positive force that helps us face with calm and strength the things we need to confront on a daily basis

When Fat Comes Back

This is an excerpt from an article about ‘Fat Coming Back’ by Gretchen Voss

May 25, 2010, womenshealth

“Still playing the Yo-yoing game?  Yo-yoing: it was fun when you were a kid (AND we’re talking about a small plastic toy). but now it’s your weight that’s reeling up and down. Not good. here, how to put a stop to it – forever

Who among us hasn’t high-fived ourselves when our favorite jeans are just that bit looser… only to find they’re too tight a few months later.

And it’s not just us normal folk – stand at any supermarket checkout and the cautionary tales scream at you from the tabloids: Kirstie Alley regained the 30-plus kilos she lost on Jenny Craig.

Oprah – well, we all know about her struggles. Mariah Carey, Sophie Monk… The list goes on.

If these rich, powerful women, with their personal trainers and private chefs, can’t win the weight war, what chance do we have? We investigate the dangerous cycle of yo-yo dieting – and find out how you can break out of it – for good.

It doesn’t help that the statistics are grim. Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, Ca, analyzed 31 long-term diet studies and found that about two-thirds of participants regained more weight within four or five years than they initially lost.

By some estimates, a huge (literally, we presume) 80 per cent of people who’ve lost weight regain it all, or more, after two years. It’s enough to make you throw in your gym towel and bury your head in a bowl of nachos.

In fact, that’s a common reaction – you feel like crap, so you eat more, making you put on more weight, then feel even crappier. Not a fun cycle to be on. Along with the emotional toll is a physical one: not only is extra weight a health risk, recent studies have linked the gain-lose-gain cycle to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.”

O.K., that is the end of the article’s excerpt, if you desire to read the whole article go to

When I showed Dr. De Saint-Simone this article as a subject of interest to include in her Blog, she didn’t hesitate. Read on if you want to know what she said.

She said: “The article is 100% correct -what they do not explain is the reason why this Yo-yoing effect happens; this being that the Subconscious Mind will not rest until ‘it is resolved’. It will not accept just ‘symptomatic tricks’ as a solution – on the contrary, if this is done it will recreate that specific problem over and over again, magnifying it each time more until the person ‘gets the message’ and seeks serious help.  Otherwise, the result is and will always be the yo-yo effect*.  That is, if the symptom is fat a person will seem to get thinner with a diet, pills, whatever they use to lose weight and feel fine – for a while – not for long because actually subconsciously the problem has been magnified, so  the person will after a while start to re-gain the lost weight and even get fatter.   This will discourage most people, who are left with a terrible image of themselves and  –  like it says in the article – ‘feeling like crap’. As a result they will eat more, put on more weight, then feel even crappier.’ It works like this, ‘If you don’t deal with the SC, the SC will deal with you!’

* This SC procedure applies to all symptoms not only to fat – fat is just more visible.  I had a man come to my practice who told me, “I don’t know how I do it, but I manage to  marry ‘the same woman only that with a different face over and over again.  I have done it already four times!  It’s a disaster!’ He is now living with his ideal woman.  But he came to find out what was the root-cause of his problem. Thereafter, after removing the cause-belief of his ‘repeated ‘ and with a changed Mind, he was able to change his behavioral patterns and find his ideal partner.

The reason why pills, diets, starvation, positive thinking, a ‘be present in the present’ type of philosophy, or any other ‘band-aid-on the symptom trick’ IS NOT going to work permanently is because fat (as any other symptom) is a desperate cry for help from the SC Mind, which wants to be free from the ‘root-cause’ of the problem – not just temporarily  ‘pacified’ but for good. The SC Mind does not lie, nor does it accept tricks as a real solution.

The good news is that the SC Mind will help anyone to get rid of the symptom that afflicts them if a real method to remove the cause is used.  And there is a natural, effortless Method to release that unwanted information; a beneficial and permanent solution.  That is what this Blog of Know Thyself is all about.  Letting people know that there is a proven, successful Method to free themselves from their problem if they are open and willing to do the necessary work.

Knowing your self will not only get rid of  fat and other problems, it will give you a Center of power and strength to function from. You will not only lose the fat that has invaded your body and makes you look ‘like that’ As we know, fat hinders anyone’s true physical presentation and  this problem makes people self-conscious and insecure, even when, as the girl shown in the photo – manages to look beautiful in spite of her weight. The fact is that he is carrying a lot of extra weight that doesn’t belong to her and excess fat is not healthy for the heart, nor psychologically or socially. Much more importantly – hear what I am going to say:  There are no ‘fat people’.  That beautiful girl in the picture IS NOT FAT. Her excess weight IS NOT PART OF HER, as her beauty is.  Fat is an invasion to her body, so she can get rid of it and be just a beautiful girl.'”

I said, ‘I never heard someone put it this way.  . .  So, there’s hope for everyone.’ After a silence, she responded:

“Yes.  .  .  But sadly it is not that easy to help everyone.  .  . Some people have identified with ‘being fat’ and accepted ‘that’s the way they are’, so now they protect their weight, defend it and aggressively show they are ‘happily fat’ to the ‘thin world’. Others hide it and cheat themselves thinking no one sees ‘their fat’. Their illusion easily survives in a society like ours, where no one is going to tell them the truth – just ‘what they want to hear’, which usually is: ‘you’re looking great!’ -That’s for sure!  Others are so disappointed from failing after trying so many things that, as the article says, see the problem becomes worse and surrender to the dead ‘nothing works for me belief’;others may be punishing themselves and others may have great ‘subconscious secondary gains’ in being fat: many are ‘protecting themselves from the world’ with fat – these will not even try to give fat up, or will indeed fail in the intent because fat is a shield, as it is with victims of child sexual or physical abuse.  These are just a few of the things that enable fat to gloriously win the ‘battle of the bulge.’ The point is no one can cheat the SC.  If you don’t release the old ineffective beliefs, traumas or problems stored in there and acquire a new Mind, the SC Mind will invariably win. That’s the way it is.”

Remember what was said on page one?  No one can experience a superior transformation or any permanent change of any kind or form until they communicate with their cellular body with a new Mind free from old limitations.  That’s the Key.

The key to the solution is to free the SC Mind from its ineffective beliefs and substitute them with healthy effective ones. That is the only solution. That, and only that will enable anyone to implement the desired specific changes in a permanent and effortless manner, be it a weight loss and weight gain yo-yo problem, or any other symptom, including drug or alcohol addictions, psychosomatic symptoms, or character problems.  Otherwise, 99% chances are that fat or any other symptom will reign supreme!  And eventually, in most cases, it will come back stronger in spite of your efforts.

That is not only an expert’s opinion; the latest groundbreaking scientific research agrees that the Mind creates ‘belief’ and ‘belief’ creates reality.  So, their conclusion is that if anyone wants to change their life or any condition that limits or afflicts them, be it personal, social, professional or health related,  they must first change their Mind and dis identify from the ineffective, limiting beliefs they have accepted as ‘part of themselves’ that are actively influencing their behavior and directing their lives.
